MARIANNE MAR
Marianne Marcote
AKA Marián Araújo
Ritual Art and Performance.
I see myself as a life-long performer experiencing life and searching for existential meaning through performance, in an attempt to find a deeper embodiment of Self and closer connection.
I approach my artistic practice through somatic movement, Butoh dance, voice vibration and creative ritual in performance.
Currently, I am interested in developing what I call Conscious Performances, solo, collaborative pieces and therapeutic workshops which explore the impact of internal and external landscapes in the performer by responding to impulse and site moment to moment.
My latest work is informed by butoh dance, somatic embryology, embodied ecology, energy practices and authentic movement, all of which serve me as vehicles for the exploration of truth. In Butoh truth is both our light and our shadow, the beauty of a shiny spring flower and the frailty of her ephemeral life, life and death in nature's eternal dance. It means to trust your own truth and accepting it as it is — no matter what it looks like. It doesn't have to be beautiful, it doesn't have to demonstrate anything to anybody, it is about opening space within to let spirit come through and call in parts of ourselves that may have been hidden for a long time. The more we call our spirit back into our bodies the more complete we will feel and the less damage we will cause, as we will be at peace. This is the purpose of performance for me, embracing light and shadow in an attempt to integrate and offer a mirror for others to look in.

Butoh
Butoh is a powerful artistic vehicle which enables me to dive into existence as a performance act, a place where through deep expression void can be found.
My connection to butoh began through Atsushi Takenouchi's Jinen Butoh, a holistic dance that embraces the life force of ALL. As I began to dance, the dance danced me and I became. I stoped being... to become. This is the essence of performance to me.
What is beyond me when I let go of me?
Is it possible?
Who does arise?
Where do I go?
Am I all?
Am I nothing?
